Rev. Duy Nguyen, SCJ, was appointed Parochial Vicar of St. Bartholomew the Apostle Catholic Church, effective July 1, 2026.

Fr. Duy is a priest of the Priests of the Sacred Heart, also known as the Dehonians. He was born on February 17, 1978, and was raised on the north side of Chicago. He first came into contact with the Priests of the Sacred Heart in 1999, when his family was invited to a gathering at the province’s formation house. A few years later, during a youth gathering in Toronto, he came to know the community more personally and began to discover his vocation and the charism of the SCJs.

Before entering religious formation, Fr. Duy studied at the University of Illinois in Champaign and later transferred to the University of Chicago, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Information and Decision Sciences. He continued his theological studies at Catholic Theological Union and also completed a pastoral year in Lower Brule, South Dakota.

Fr. Duy professed his first vows with the Priests of the Sacred Heart in 2006. On January 30, 2010, he made his perpetual profession at Sacred Heart Monastery. He was ordained to the priesthood on June 11, 2011, at Sacred Heart Monastery / School of Theology by Bishop Joseph Potocnak, SCJ, retired bishop of De Aar, South Africa.

During his years of priestly ministry, Fr. Duy has served in parish ministry, formation, leadership, and provincial service. In the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, he served at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Houston and St. Charles Borromeo Parish. He was pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Houston by 2017, when he joined parishioners, students, and families for the annual Steps for Students 5K.

Fr. Duy has also served the Priests of the Sacred Heart in formation-related ministry at Sacred Heart Monastery. In 2022, he was appointed local superior of the Sacred Heart Monastery Community. He has also served on the Province Finance Commission and as Province Director of Justice, Peace and Reconciliation. In that role, he helped promote reflection and awareness on important social concerns in the spirit of the Gospel and the charism of the Sacred Heart.

As he begins his ministry at St. Bartholomew, we welcome Fr. Duy with gratitude and joy. We ask the Lord to bless his priestly ministry among us, and we invite all parishioners to keep him in their prayers as he joins our parish family.
